Obituary of Violet Nora Piapot

Violet Nora Piapot, Keesikow Ahkoopaawe “Day Blanket” – May 4, 1935 – April 27, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Violet Piapot, aged 84 years. She was seven days away from her eighty-fifth birthday. She spent her last days at the Wolseley Care Home.

She is predeceased by her paternal grandparents Keenik and Annie Rockthunder; parents, Jack and Melannie Blacksioux; brothers Louis, Howard, Arthur, Eugene and Aldoph; sister Florence Carrier; aunt Florence Buglar; cousins Shirley and Judy Buglar, Patrick, Glen (Poncho) Buglar.

Violet is survived by her husband Ron Piapot; numerous nieces and nephews; special niece, Juanne Carrier; and adopted sister Elaine McLaughlin of Standing Rock, ND; brothers Isador Blacksioux and Theodore Blacksioux; sister Linda Blacksioux.

Violet was a residential school survivor, and she leaves a legacy of love and hard work.

A Traditional Wake will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at the Piapot Community Hall, Piapot First Nation. A Traditional Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 1, 2020 from the same location. Interment will follow in the Blacksioux Family Cemetery.
