Obituary of Paula Ottenbreit

Paula Ottenbreit (nee Heinrich) died on March 21, 2020 in Regina at the age of 92 after a short illness. Paula was predeceased by her parents Wilhelm and Barbara; her siblings Willi, Rosel, Erwin, Friedrich and Kurt. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Willi; her sons Ralph (Martha), Robert, Klaus (Pamela); her grandchildren Matthew (Reanna), Michaela (Daniel) Dawalibi, Nicole; and her great grandchildren Sophia, Brynn, Theoden, Samuel; as well as  her sister -in law Marianne Putzlocher; nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany.

Paula was born and raised in a little village in the Rhineland Pfalz region of Germany. She, Willi and their young family immigrated to Regina in the fall of 1957. They made a successful life together and raised three boys through often difficult times.

Paula was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a fun-loving and lively woman who showed her love for her family through her delicious German cooking and baking. She was an excellent seamstress who loved sewing and needlepoint. Paula loved to knit or crochet blankets for members of her family. She enjoyed family gatherings and insisted, even as she aged, on hosting them. Paula was also a woman of deep faith and prayed unceasingly for the members of her family. She will be missed by all.

Many thanks to those who showed kindness to Paula in the past few years: Dr. Kondrashov, the nurses and home care workers of the Regina Health Region, the staff at the Revera Renaissance and more recently Wintergreene Estates. A special thankyou to Dr. Meena and the nursing and medical staff on ward 4B at the Pasqua Hospital who cared compassionately for Paula in her last days.

There will be a Service Celebrating Paula’s Life later in the year. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation to fund research for women.
