As parishioners at St. Cecilia Parish we had the pleasure of enjoying Gerry and Eleanor in our lives. Gerry and I (Richard) spent several tears serving the parish together both as usher/greeters and as a team counting weekend collections in regular. Rotation. Quite often Gerry would bring me a Safeway sales receipt that would yield a free burger at the Burger Baron and each time we counted he would exchange a $10 or $20 bill for loose change but mostly for loonies so he would have them to give to his grandchildren when they visited - a loonie at a time. I also commend him on his community involvement - softball teams; St. Francis Home & School (as it was known then). He even took on the role of Santa Claus a couple of times. He had board involvement at both Transcona Housing as well as the development of Benson Manor resulting in hem being honored with a Provincial Volunteer Award. Rest in Peace Gerry. We often talked about the fact he and Eleanor had been cancer free for a fair while. Unfortunately it did not last for Eleanor. We believe it was their faith that carried them through the "valleys" in their long journey of life together. I hope we get to see their Jay's Jersey's they wore on their anniversary trip to watch the Blue Jays at a game in Toronto. Rest in the Peace of Christ, our friend Gerry. "You done well"
