Helga passed away peacefully on February 5, 2020, at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, SK on what would have been the 90th birthday of her husband Hans-Peter. Helga was predeceased by her husband Hans-Peter Nieboj in 2014. Helga was born in 1936, in Saarbrucken, Germany. It was in Germany where Helga received her primary education and a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also met her future husband, Hans-Peter. Helga and Hans-Peter emigrated to Montreal in January, 1964. Helga attended the University of New Brunswick where she earned one of two Master's degrees; the first was in German literature and the other in German philosophy obtained in 1976 from the University of Kansas. From 1970-1971 she was granted a teaching certificate as a high school French coordinator in Fredericton, New Brunswick. In 1976 Hans-Peter took a position as an engineering instructor at the University of Kansas. In 1978 Helga was appointed as an assistant instructor for Germanic language and literature also at the University of Kansas. Helga was fluent in three languages: German, French, and English. She could also understand Russian. In 1980 she and Hans-Peter returned to Canada where Hans-Peter obtained a position with Saskatchewan Power until his retirement. On May 22, 1974, while living in New Brunswick, Helga was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She continued to remain active in her faith until her passing. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2020 Van Egmond Place, Regina, SK.
