Obituary of Hazel Pauline Brown

Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With heavy hearts, the family of Hazel Pauline Brown must share the sad news that their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the age of 88 just one month shy of her 89th. Mom grew up in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, the daughter of James and Etta Steele. She had two older sisters Edna and Margaret. She loved to reminisce about those years, when in the 30s, there was lots of thunder and lightning, eggs were 12 cents a dozen and lettuce actually came from the garden. She recalled the war years and all the local boys that returned home and those that didn’t. During the 60s and 70s, she raised her family and in later years had her share of heartaches, losing family members way too soon. But nothing was able to take away the joy she found in the little things. Her home and her heart were always open. We will miss her smile and her infectious laughter. In her life’s end journal, all she asked was, “We remember her well”. Hazel is lovingly remembered by her husband Bob; her children Bonnie, Terry (Jim), James, Tym (Trina), Sandy (Ben),), Sherry (Rod); grandchildren Todd, Jessie, Tyler, Rod, Shawn, Chad, Teighen, Katie, Dustin, Jerrad and Brittany along with numerous great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild. Hazel was predeceased by two husbands John Ottenbreit and Ken McEachern Sr.; her son Ritchie; daughter-in-law Fiona; granddaughter Meicha; parents James and Etta Steele; and sisters Edna and Margaret. Our family would like to thank the Lumsden & District Heritage Home doctors, nurses, caregivers, and staff for the love and care given to our Mom over the last 7 years. We are forever grateful for you all. A Celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at St. Andrew’s United Church, 115 King St, Lumsden, SK. Interment will follow at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Hazel can be made to Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc, 2550 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
