Obituary of Joanne Lynne Steiner

On Monday, January 13, 2020, Joanne Steiner, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at the age of 65. Joanne was born September 1954 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Frank and Mary (Stewart) Jones. She grew up on a farm near Tilney, where she was fond of catching snakes and frogs and chasing the boys around with them. Joanne attended school near Briercrest. On June 2, 1973, she married the love of her life, Bryan Steiner. Together they raised three sons: Evan, Darren, and Troy. Joanne loved her family, her dogs, shopping, jewelry, puzzles, and rolling her eyes. She enjoyed competition, especially trivia and card games, and was an avid fan of curling, the Roughriders, and the Blue Jays. After putting her career on hold to raise her sons, she later became a home care worker. During retirement, she and Bryan became avid travelers, counting Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Jamaica, Alaska, the Maritimes, and Mexico among their many stops. When not travelling, they spent their summers at Horizon Beach where Joanne was known to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire, and winters at Desert Trails in El Centro, California. Joanne was incredibly kind, had an impeccable sense of fashion, and never missed sending a thoughtful card for a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. She was a member of several bowling leagues, church committees, and social clubs. Not surprisingly, Joanne made friends wherever she went, and will be dearly missed by many. Joanne was predeceased by her mother Mary and her father Frank. She is survived by her husband Bryan; sons Evan (Amanda), Darren (Katrina), and Troy (Sarina); and grandchildren Jessalynn and Braxton. We were unlucky to lose Joanne so early, but we were far luckier to have had her in our lives for the time we did. A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on January 25, 2020 at St. James United Church, followed by a gathering to share stories and reminisce about the ways in which Joanne touched our lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
