Obituary of Peg Thompson

Please share a memory of Peg to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

In loving memory of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret “Peg” Ruth Thompson (nee Hart), who passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the age of 93 years.

Peg was born on a farm near Lemsford, SK where she spent her childhood during the drought of the 1930’s, attending a typical Saskatchewan one-room schoolhouse and riding her horse, Midnight, through the cold, windy, winter days. Her loyal horse knew how to get to and from the school with no guidance from Peg or her brother, Bud.

At age 18, she left the farm to take her nursing training at the Regina General Hospital. After a few years, she met her lifelong love, Sid Thompson, one of her patients, who, she nursed after surgery. They married in 1955, and she supported Sid in all his endeavors in Regina and eventually, together, they built a home, shop and quonset, and began farming near Pense, SK.

Peg along with her three children assisted with all the farming initiatives with a vegetable garden, expanding not long into acres of potatoes, grain farming, raising pheasants, and an apiary.  Peg set high standards for raising her children and showed her love by helping her children succeed in school and all other activities. She was committed to having a delicious, healthy meal for her family, on the table every night. Peg’s attention to detail kept the house clean and in order. When Sid passed away in 2000, Peg moved back to Regina to be near her family and her grandchildren. As a grandmother she provided lunch, at her home, for her grandchildren in elementary school, and later loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.

The last few years for Peg were challenging, as her body physically was weak and she struggled with this helplessness at times, needing to ask for more and more assistance. However, she still had a sharp mind, and strong convictions right up until her passing. Her family would like to thank the assistance of the caregivers and staff at Harbour House, Wintergreene Estates, and also Regina EMS with her trips to the hospital.

Peg, you will always be in our hearts and missed by your children, Janet (Doug Ballou), John (Gail), Scott (Maria Rupcich); grandchildren, Colton, Mitchell (Carly), Amanda (Andrew), and Angela; and great-grandchildren, Scotlynn, Julia, Mackenzie, and Juniper. Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband Sidney Thompson; father, Stuart; and mother, Ruth; and brothers, John and Robert “Bud”.

A private Family Celebration of her life will take place.
