Obituary of Gertrude Kathleen Elizabeth Smith

We wish to announce the peaceful passing of Gertrude Elizabeth Kathleen Smith on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the age of 101 years, at Trinity Manor in Regina, SK.

Gert was predeceased by her parents Beatrice and James Greig; seven siblings David, Ethel, Winnifred, Harry, Lilly, Jean and Jessie; and son Ralph, 2018. She is survived by Harry’s widow Evelyn; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. She also had many friends including Ruth Englund, Evelyn Marshall, Susan and Sandra Etter.  

Gert was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Church and more recently of Knox-Metropolitan United Church. Church and her faith were a large part of her life.  Gert was always ready to participate in and help with anything happening at church. Gert’s St. Andrew’s friends were part of her extended family. She enjoyed the regular Seniors’ Fellowship at church.   Gert also enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting which she took up after she retired, and other artistic endeavors for as long as her vision allowed. She actively participated in the Lions Blind Bowling and their functions. Gert also enjoyed her talking books through the Regina Public Library. She was a proud, long-time employee at R.J. Simpsons, and after they closed she worked at Simpson Sears and Hudson Bay Company.

Gert was a positive and happy person with a wonderful sense of humor. 

She’ll be missed.

A special thank you to her friend and physio therapist Peggy Forsberg, who saw and worked with her regularly throughout COVID 19. Thank you as well, to the many staff at Trinity Manor, who cared for Gert and got to know her over the last two years.

A Memorial Service will be heldat 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Knox Metropolitan Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK  Those wishing may send a donation to the CNIB, 2160 Broad Street, Regina, SK or Knox-Metropolitan United Church.
