Angeline Markwart

Obituary of Angeline Mary Markwart

Please share a memory of Angeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Angeline Markwart (nee Wira). She was the family matriarch who ensured the family bond never wavered. She was a strong loving central figure in our families’ lives. Angie uplifted many through her willingness to give of what she had; a place to live, an ear to listen or a shoulder to rest on. She was compassionate and was there to help each person on their life journey. Angie was generous with her time, joy and spirit.

Her life journey had a humble beginning in Kelliher, SK. She spoke fondly of her early days on the farm. Angie married on September 1, 1962 to Raymond Markwart after moving to Regina. Ray and Angie lived a fulfilling life of love, strength, travel and much laughter. She would laugh often and overcome life hardships with faith, strength, courage and acceptance. Angie was a pillar of courage in her battles with cancer. Much of her joy and laughter stemmed from joking around with and spoiling her granddaughter, Rayanna. Angie was a loving Baba to Rayanna. She also had an exuberant love of spending time in her garden with Ray and Zack (their cat), as they worked or just sat enjoying her flowers.

She is remembered by many as the owner of Markwart’s House of Decor in the Golden Mile. In her earlier days she was a manager and buyer of lady’s wear for Rikki’s in Eaton Dominion Mall, Vogue on Hamilton and Simpson Sears sportswear. Angie was a proud founding member of Bread of Life Lutheran Church. She held her church community close to her heart. Angie contributed many years to aligning the church's visual arts and decor to its weekly teachings.

She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary Wira (nee Patron); brother Julian Wira; and sister Adella (Clifford) Hayko (nee Wira). Angeline is survived in loving memories and prayer by her husband Raymond Markwart; cat companion Zack; daughter Lisa Markwart (Patrick Hawley); beloved granddaughter Rayanna Hawley; brother Gerald Wira (Joyce;), sister-in-law Mary Wira (nee Rondeau), and her nieces and nephews Sandra Brodie (David; Kyle), Dan Wira (Sharron; Mikayla, Ethan), Cheryl Kelly, Tracy Wira (Kris;), Trina Clairmont (Wade; Alyssa, Kelsey), Geoff Wira (Amanda; Griffin, Liam).

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, 3018 Doan Drive, Regina, SK.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, cancerfoundationsask.ca would be appreciated.
