Obituary of Orland Beach
In loving Memory of Orland Edward Beach
Orland passed away on Wednesday October 24th 2018 at the age of 87. He was born in Ernfold, Saskatchewan on May 5th, 1931. He grew up on the family farm along with his 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Orland never forgot the lessons he learned in “the dirty 30’s” when recycling was the norm. Throughout his life he didn’t believe in wasting anything, every screw, every piece of string or wire was carefully stored away for future use. While material goods may have been in short supply, the family environment was rich with music, discussion (especially politics) and progressive ideas.
After farming for many years in the family farm cooperative, Orland moved to Regina in the mid 70’s and took up a position with the Grain Services Union. He enjoyed travelling the province and meeting people. He always sought fairness and justice for those he represented. In the late 80’s he became a stay at home dad to raise his fourth child, Kathryn, which he did with his usual patience and love.
Orland made several trips to the UK and enjoyed travelling around with Anne`s family who held him in great regard. He was particularly close to his brothers in law Tom and Ron. His final years were spent in Regina with his wife Anne and daughter Kathryn. He loved to visit his sister Pauline in Moose Jaw and really enjoyed it when his grandchildren came to visit. A favourite family outing was to go to Last Mountain Lake and watch the seasonal changes with his beloved family pet, Freya.
Orland was a sociable person who liked to chat with the neighbours and visit family and friends. He never lost his love for political debate and kept abreast of current affairs. He attended social justice demonstrations until he no longer had the capacity and energy to do so. As his health failed Orland never lost his sense of humour, his interest in people and his joy in helping others.
Orland is survived by his wife Anne; sons Pat (Debbie)and their daughter Megan, Robert (Sandra), Alastair (Tara) and their children Alex and Emily, Richard (Hiromi)and son Sho; daughter Kathryn; son in law Ken Catherwood and Kristin, Janelle (Kenton), Shawn; daughter in law Louise Beach and Ashley (Kote) and Nicole; sisters Joy Beach Hinther and Pauline Beach-Biggs as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Palmer and Floria Beach, son Tim (Louise), daughter Coreen (Ken), brothers Dexter and his wife Margaret, Horace, Norman (Phylis), Garnet and his wife Betty, Homer (Theresa) Paul (Phylis), Royal, sister Dorothy Hannon and her husband Fred, and baby sister Gwendoline.
