Obituary of Michael Robert Vantour
Michael Robert Vantour passed away at Regina Pioneer Village on Saturday, June 9, 2018 – just two weeks short of his 79th birthday.
He was predeceased by his son Neal, and by his parents, Irvine and Alice Vantour.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory his wife Josie, his sons Don (Nicole) and Doug (Indira), their mother Linda, and his beloved grandchildren Chase and Brookelyn. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Denise), his sister Helen, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mike lived in Edmonton from 1950 to 2001 when he moved to Regina. He was an avid sports fan following the Oilers and Eskimos, thus never forgetting his Edmonton roots. He coached soccer and hockey for his boys and in his younger years took his high school curling rink to the Alberta Provincial Curling Championship. After moving to Regina, he was a curling coach to junior high students. He enjoyed stick curling three times a week for several years.
He was active at St. Athanasius Church and a Member of the UCBC (Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada).
One of the highlights of his life was a two-year around the word trip with a high school buddy when they were in their twenties. They cruised their way through the Suez Canal, worked their way through Australia – including building a convent in Brisbane and working for British GE, Brunswick Bowling and in a handbag factory).
Mike was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He loved spending time with them individually and together. He loved his special moments with his grandchildren at Floating Stone Lake. Those were fun times.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff on 4West at Regina Pioneer Village for their wonderful care and compassion. We would also like to thank all the extended family and friends for their support and encouragement over the many years.
Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 55 McMurchy Ave., Regina, SK. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church.
