Obituary of Stanley Sobieski

Stanley Albert Sobieski

December 16, 1926 – December 31, 2017

Stanley passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at Regina General Hospital with family by his side. Stan is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years June and his children Terry (Susan) and Marcine (Jim) Kalyn and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Pauline and Joseph Sobieski; brothers Felix and Joe, and sisters Eileen and Kay. Stan was born in Fork River/Mossy Creek, MB, the oldest of five children. Stan and June were married in 1953 where he had been working logging in the Minitonas area. In 1960, he built their house on the property in Minitonas where June had been living and it became their home until moving to Regina. He became a mechanic and eventually owned his own garage in Minitonas. He sold the garage in the late 1970’s and semi-retired but then worked for 10 years driving semi-truck delivering concrete products. His and June’s hobby of collecting rock eventually became a successful business “The Rock Shop” where he sold and made jewellery, trophies and an assortment of items. He sold his second business and retired to spend time fishing with his close friends, a favorite lifelong pastime, gardening and wood working. He and June travelled all over Manitoba and area going to craft sales, both selling and buying. After retiring they also spent many happy years in Texas during the winter months which felt like their second home. In 2008, Stan and June moved to Regina to be closer to family where he enjoyed working for his daughter Marcine in her food services business for a number of years. The last couple of years were a challenge with his health deteriorating but he faced life with determination and dignity. Stan was a loving companion and father and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date, yet to be decided.
