1930 – 2017
Lea Gessell (nee Harty) our beloved mother, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 26, 2017 in Regina at the age of 87.   Predeceased by her husband Fred Gessell (2015); parents John & Elizabeth Harty; 9 brothers, Adam, Andrew, Alphonse, Bert, Henry, Joe, Leonard, Ted, and Wendell Harty; and 4 sisters, Rose Robertson, Regina Balog, Rita Fluter, and Jean Abello. Lea is survived by her children: son Larry Gessell; daughters Karen (Gary) Balaberda, Darlene (Tom) Spence, Marlene Chessall; granddaughters Megan Chessall and Nichole Chessall (Jesse); and great-grandchildren Jaxson, Leah, and Avree Perrin.  She is also survived by brothers Paul (Rose), Tony (Hilda) Harty; sisters-in-law, Marion, Reta, and Phyllis Harty, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including her godsons, Ken Fluter and Randy Harty. Lea was born in Mankota, Saskatchewan on April 7, 1930. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose interests always revolved around her family. She enjoyed nothing better than cooking a feast for family and friends to enjoy. Lea worked very hard all her life to help provide for her family and always put her family first in all her accomplishments. She had a great sense of humor and an inner wisdom & strength which her children & grandchildren loved and respected. Lea loved all her family and friends and had a unique gift for making everyone feel special and welcome in her home. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. P.K. Suri for his compassionate care through the years. The family would also like to express our deep gratitude to the nursing staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their exceptional care. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on September 29, 2017 at Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK with Father Jose Periyilkatte as Celebrant. Memorial donations may be made to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4R 8P6.
